What are Analytics?
Often referred to as metrics, Analytics are essentially a statistics set for your website. Analytics are installed into your website code and, simply put, are a virtual tracking device attached to each visitor to your website.
There are expensive analytics packages available but we have found that Google Analytics do a more than adequate job of truthfully representing your website statistics. The software is free and requires only a Google account (also free!). Analytics produce valid statistics from your website visitors for tracking things like:
- Conversion Rate
- Traffic Numbers and Sources
- Keywords that are getting customers to your site
- Links that direct customers to your site
- Cart abandonment rates for e-commerce site
- Bounce rates - are users staying on your site to find out more or are they simply leaving
- Most popular content on your site
- Track Pay-Per-Click campaign efforts and see which terms are converting for you
